TOKYO: Toyota Motor (7203.T) announced on Tuesday that it will sell a record 11.2 million cars in 2023,
earning the title of best-selling automaker globally for a record-breaking four years.

Hino Motors (7205.T), a truck division, opened a new tab and sold 8.9 million cars last year, contributing to the Japanese automaker’s 7.2 percent increase in global group sales.

Volkswagen Group <VOWG_p.DE> reported a 12% increase in deliveries to 9.2 million cars last year, indicating a post-pandemic recovery due to reduced supply-chain delays. There is a mark there.
In 2023, sales of Toyota’s parent-only brands, which include Lexus and its nameplate, reached a record 10.3 million units.
Approximately one-third of those are gasoline-electric hybrids. Less than 1% are battery-electric automobiles.
