Senator Josh Hawley, a Republican, encouraged Mark Zuckerberg to take a stand and speak to the families holding up pictures of their children who they claimed had suffered because of social media.

The committee screened a video of kids discussing bullying on social media platforms before the session started.

Senators related tales of young people who committed themselves after being blackmailed for money after disclosing pictures to sexual predators.

“Would you now like to apologize to the victims who were harmed by your product?” With the hearing being shown live on television, Holly enquired.
The family was addressed by Mark Zuckerberg as he got up and turned around.

“I apologize for all that has happened to you. We’re talking about this because we believe that no one should have to experience what your families have.”

We’ll keep working with the industry as a whole to make sure that nobody has to experience what your families have,” he declared.

In a contentious exchange, Holly chastised Mark Zuckerberg harshly. “Your product is killing people,” Hawley said to Zuckerberg, whose company runs the social media sites Instagram and Facebook.
